Conferences & Seminars
MU Fire and Rescue Training Institute conducts statewide conferences
and seminars throughout the year. Annual events include:
Held in Columbia each February, the event offers over 100 classes to choose from in a weekend format of 4 or 12 hour classes. Topics are geared for all levels of response from fire, EMS, emergency management and more. In addition, the Midwest’s largest Equipment Exposition provides an excellent opportunity for learning and networking.
MU FRTI Summer Fire School and Midwest Wildfire Training Academy
Jefferson City is the host location for the Summer Fire School and Midwest Wildfire Training Academy (MWTA) focusing on the practical skills training necessary for today’s emergency responders and wildland firefighters. The (MWTA) is made possible through a grant with the USDA Forest Service and is co-located with MU FRTI’s Summer Fire School. This annual event has grown from a weekend program to a 6 day event each June. The dates for 2008 will be June 3-8.
Instructor Conference
Held annually this conference allows state certified instructors an opportunity to obtain CEUs for recertification on a variety of instructor development topics.

In addition to conferences, MU FRTI supports several Regional Fire Schools and special Seminars throughout the state.
NFA Regional Delivery
Advanced Safety Operations and Management
This 6-day course focuses on applying the risk management model to health and safety aspects of emergency services operations, including program management, day-to-day operations, and incident safety. Content areas include firefighter and emergency services fatalities and injury problems; the risk management process; safety responsibilities of department members; regulations, standards, and policies affecting emergency services safety; and appropriate documentation and record keeping pertaining to firefighter and emergency services health and safety.
Midwest Regional EDEN Animal Agrosecurity Conference
With support from the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES), the Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN) is offering the Midwest Regional EDEN Animal Agrosecurity Conference. By the end of a conference, attendees will be able to describe the roles of Extension and other agencies/organizations in an animal agrosecurity event within their region.
